Star Citizen - Dracaena Plants

Dracaenas are alien plants found on the planet Pyro I, and part of 4.0 content update of Star Citizen. If you're familiar with real-world plants, you'll recognize the name, this species is inspired by the real-life Dracaena, but reimagined as an alien variant.

This asset features large, vibrant leaves that transition from light blue (younger growth) to deep purple. Its bulbous silhouette includes side buds, while the base leaves form a palm-like structure. The main body has a twisted, root-like formation that spreads in all directions as it hits the ground.

To suggest mutation and biological evolution, I added a slimy blue lichen texture along the bark, reinforcing the alien feel of the plant.
I went through many iterations while creating this asset, and I’m incredibly grateful to the CIG Planet team and our Art Director Ian Leyland for their guidance and feedback throughout the process.
